Diversity, Equity and Access Committee
This committee provides leadership to ensure that issues of cultural and ethnic diversity remains at the forefront in the thoughts and actions of WACAC members and the educational community.
Description
The committee supports outreach efforts at early, intermediate and transfer levels intended to increase the number of college students from low-income and ethnically-diverse populations. In addition, the DEA Committee organizes WACAC’s nationally recognized Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access (IDEA) Workshop formally known as ICL.
A sampling of committee projects includes:
- Hosting Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access, a pre-conference designed to assist educational professionals at all levels, to work successfully with a more diverse population whose needs differ from those of the majority population.
- Find a speaker on diversity issue on the Diversity Speakers Bureau
- Join the Diversity Speakers Bureau
- Compiling the Gay and Lesbian (LGBTQ) Student Resource Guide, a reference source that can be used by counselors and students to find web sites and possible mentors for gay and lesbian students to assist them as they apply to college
- Undocumented Students College Admission Presentation by DEA Undocumented Students Sub-Committee
- The College & Financial Aid Guide for AB540 Undocumented Immigrant Students
- Administering DEA Grants to promote equality and access among students in the Western region
- Granting DEA Scholarships to attend NACAC's Guiding the Way to Inclusion Workshop (GWI)
