University of California, Berkeley Admissions Reader (2023-2024)
University of California, Irvine Admissions Evaluator 3 (2018-2022)
Bio: I have worked within the field of education for over 15 years as a teacher, counselor, and college admissions evaluator. Currently, I serve as the college/career counselor for a large public high school in South Orange County for the past 3 years. Within this role, I have helped students navigate the college admission process by providing support and resources for all students, including targeted supports for underserved student groups. Being an advocate for students who might not have access to the resources or support to achieve their goals is one of my main goals as a counselor. Throughout my work as a college/career counselor, I have been able to help achieve higher rates of financial aid completion and college applications submissions over the past few years by providing supports on campus as well as family events. In addition to being a school counselor, I have served as an admissions evaluator for the UC system since 2018 with UCI and UC Berkeley. As an educator, my goals are to be able to support all students and make sure all students are given the opportunities and resources to be successful. To make my practice as a counselor more effective, the usage of data helps inform my goals. Using data collection methods has been such a valuable tool to provide insights on which area of my counselor practice needs more support to help our students and have the greatest impact. When I am not working as a counselor, I love spending time with my husband and two young children. We spend time at the beach, love hiking, Disneyland, and watching movies. I look forward to serving on the WACAC board this year!

Bio: Veronica Zendejas has built her career on expanding access to higher education and creating pathways for student success, with over a decade of experience in undergraduate admissions and a deep commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). As a college graduate from a small, predominantly Hispanic community, she earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and a master’s degree in Counseling from California State University, Sacramento. Her educational journey and lived experiences inspire her passion for expanding access to higher education and creating pathways for student success. Veronica began her career as a marriage, family, and children’s therapist in a low-income, rural community, where she witnessed the systemic barriers faced by underserved students and their families. This experience motivated her transition into higher education, where she served as the Director of Evaluation and Policy at UC Davis. There, she played a pivotal role in advocating for the removal of the SAT/ACT from the holistic review process, leading efforts to focus on students’ personal stories and dismantle inequitable admission practices. As the Director of Undergraduate Admissions at UC Riverside, Veronica leads recruitment and enrollment strategies that align with the university’s mission of advancing access and social mobility for students from all backgrounds. She champions equity through pipeline development programs, targeted recruitment initiatives, and innovative admissions practices, including collaborating with the UCR School of Education to launch the LiftED program, which provides educational opportunities for incarcerated students. In addition to her role at UCR, Veronica has held leadership positions with professional organizations. She served as the Transfer Advocacy Chair for WACAC, is a member of the College Fairs Committee, and is actively involved with NACAC as the Registration Co-Chair for the 2024 NACAC Los Angeles National Conference.
